The Point of Beauty

As a commercial portrait photographer and director, I strive to transcend the ordinary and uncover the profound stories each client carries. This journey is not just about capturing moments; it's about the deep connections we forge, the stories we share, and the raw emotions we unveil. This is the essence of "The Point of Beauty."

My philosophy is that we are capturing more than an image.

My approach to photography is rooted in the power of the "lean-in" moment—the instant when barriers break down and true stories emerge. In these spaces, I find the heart of my work: not just creating images or videos but capturing the essence of each person's journey. My lens seeks the unspoken tales, the whispers of the soul that yearn to be heard.

Allow me to share a story about a portrait of resilience with you.

Rita's story began with a session to honor her daughter-in-law's accolades for her angelic work aiding families grappling with loss. Yet, a narrative of strength, laughter, and unexpected vulnerability unfolded. The day Rita stepped into our studio, she brought a lifetime of memories and a spirit that captivated all of us.

As we delved into her portrait session, it wasn't just about the photographs. It was about Rita's laughter, tears of joy, and, ultimately, a revelation that moved us to the core. When Rita paused at a particular image of herself, tears streaming down her face, she shared a glimpse of her younger self—fleeing her homeland, a young girl against the backdrop of war with nothing but a suitcase and her roller skates. She looked me in the eye and told me what she saw when looking at her current image (pictured here). I see a 13-year-old girl on roller skates that is invincible.

Rita's journey and her ability to see herself anew through our portrait session offered a reflection on her past and a mirror into my soul. Losing my mother shortly before meeting Rita, I felt a profound connection, a serendipitous thread that wove our stories together. Rita's words, her story, and her image are etched in my heart, reminding us of the fragility of life and the power of seeing ourselves in a new light.

I invite you, the reader, to explore the transformative potential of portrait photography. Whether it's capturing the essence of someone who has left a significant impact on your life or seeing yourself through a lens that reveals the invincible, unseen parts of your soul, there's magic waiting to be discovered. I hope you take the opportunity to have this experience. Being on the other side of the camera, I can tell you it's beautiful!

Until next time, much love and light,

Taylor
